No false equivalence, a comparison in symbols. Both the confederate flag and the pussy hat are symbols of pride for many white people, yet, many people of color deem offensive and hurtful. White women continue to treasure their pussy hats despite the protest of cis and trans women of color, just as, many white people continue to embrace the confederate flag, regardless of how people of color feel. There’s a correlation there, but it’s not to be found in what the symbol represents, rather, the importance of the symbol to those that value it, even in light of being told it’s offensive.
